Yakel 3D SBS 2012

Yakel 3D 2012 The documentary takes you to the island of Pentecost in Vanuatu, to the Yakel tribe, which preserves ancient customs. The main focus is the famous "High Jump" ritual, a dangerous initiation rite where men jump from tall wooden towers with vines around their ankles. The picture shows the life of the last representatives of this community, their unique culture and the clash of the traditional way of life with the impending changes of the modern world. This is an ethnographic journey into a vanishing reality.
